7 vanity-free storage ideas for damp baths: shower niches, over-toilet shelves, tall pull-outs and rust-proof hardware that lasts.

1-2: Shower niches that do not leak
Niche size: 12x24 inch double (shampoo + conditioner) at 48-inch height, or two 12x12 singles for his/hers. Depth = wall thickness minus 1 inch (typically 4-5 inch usable). Slope niche sill 5 degrees to shower so water drains — flat sills pool and mold.
Waterproofing: membrane wraps niche fully, corners with preformed tape. Cost MAD 170 extra per niche during tiling, MAD 1,200 to retrofit. One unsealed niche leaked into bedroom in our test — repair MAD 2,100.
Trim with same tile + epoxy grout, not marble edge that stains with shampoo dye.
3-4: Over-toilet and door-back storage
Over-toilet: 24x8 inch SS304 shelf at 62-inch height (above head) + second at 72 inch for bulk. Holds 10 rolls + towels. Load 10 kg max on brick with 2x M8 anchors. No MDF — steam swells it in one season.
Door-back: over-door SS hook rack (MAD 120) for robes + 6-inch deep mesh basket for detergents. Zero drilling, rental-safe. Weight under 5 kg to avoid hinge sag.
5-6: Tall corner unit and mirror cabinet
Corner tall: 12x12x72 inch PVC tower in dead shower corner outside splash zone. Holds mops, buckets, bulk shampoo. PVC, not MDF — floor mopping splashes daily. Cost MAD 850-1,360.
Mirror cabinet 24x28x6 inch (not flat mirror) doubles daily storage: toothpaste, meds, lenses out of steam. LED version with shaver socket inside (MAD 680-1,190) keeps counters dry. This is the highest ROI piece — 6-inch depth stores 18 items with zero floor.
7: Rust-proof hardware rules
Only SS304, anodized aluminium, or ABS plastic. MS baskets labeled stainless rust in one monsoon near sink — test with magnet (SS304 non-magnetic). Hinges and screws SS304, cost MAD 30 extra per set, lasts 8 years vs 18 months.
Label bins: daily clear at eye level, bulk opaque below. Weekly wipe with dry cloth, monthly silicone check at niche edges.

Day 1: photo walls + over-door rack + suction hooks (test 48h on hidden patch). Week 1: mirror cabinet on existing mirror screws (reuse holes). Remodel only: niches + tall tower plinth. Exit: fill 6mm holes with white cement, dab matching paint — invisible.
